Monnow Bridge and Gate
Monnow Bridge in Monmouth, Wales, is the only remaining mediaeval fortified river bridge in Great Britain with its gate tower still standing in place.
Originally built with a portcullis, its primary use was for defence, but over the years it developed into a toll collection point, a jail and even a home.

Today's mystery itinerary was made up of visits to a farm shop complex outside Ludlow; Ludlow town centre, where there was a food festival in progress, and Monmouth riverside, complete with swans and cygnets. All delightful, foodie, and quirky. I'd never stopped in Monmouth before. It's a wonderful place for a visit.
Maybe the best part of the day for me was finding a coat of the exact type I'd been looking for, in a charity shop in Ludlow, seconds before I boarded the coach. £25 as opposed to at least £225!
Oh, and we never got rained on, neither today nor yesterday. I'm home now, and have eaten far too many greengages, bought in Bridgnorth market yesterday.
All in all, a very relaxing easy going weekend.
