Kaiser Wilhelm Kirche, Berlin

Berlin is not somewhere you come for a chill out weekend. There is so much in its recent history that your senses are never at ease. The evidence of war, death and destrction are everywhere although the evil of the nazis is now widely recognised by the vast majority of germans. I say this as today, 1 May the traditional socialist holiday, there must have been thousands of police on duty in Berlin. There are still those who hanker after the old ways under communism. I just wish I had managed to blip the old man under the influence of drink btandishing a hammer and sickle in front of the Brandenberg Gate while other germans partied around him.

This is part of the rebuilt Kaiser Wilhelm Kirch, which was severely damaged by allied bombing during the war. The main part of the church is still under repair. To stand in the peace and quiet of this fine building is very moving and powerful experience. Somethng I feel every world leader would benefit from!
