Old sycamore
For old times’ sake, we drove along the Moray Firth to the town of Beauly where we had lunch at the Corner on the Square, a cafe/deli with a good range of tasty food. Afterwards, we wandered around the ruins of Beauly Priory where we came across this old sycamore tree which is over 200 years old and was runner-up in The Woodland Trust for Scotland’s Tree of the year in 2017. I discovered an interesting fact while reading the information board: although sycamore isn’t native to Britain it became very fashionable to plant them near historical monuments in the 1800s. This particular tree has a trunk circumference nearly 5.5 metres.
