Hallmark Building

This is the Edinburgh Assay Office, one of four assay offices in the UK and the last remaining one in Scotland. The history of hallmarking in Scotland can be traced back to 1457. The Assay Office is now housed in a former church in Broughton Street, a Category B listed building, Albany Street Chapel, erected in 1816.
