Children's ward...
...at Whiston hospital. Catastrophic day today; baby Charlie was involved in a freak accident in the home this morning in which he fell on his head on the hard hall floor at his mum's house. He didn't fall far, but enough to give him a nasty bruise on the left temple and a closed and swollen eye. The community midwife arrived shortly afterwards on a routine visit to dress #1D's Caesarian wound, so he was checked over and taken to hospital for a CT scan. It transpires he has a skull fracture, but not displaced or impacted, so hopefully will heal by itself. He's still alert and feeding and pooing as normal so he and his mum are staying overnight for observation and a thorough check over tomorrow. The poor parents are distraught, but it was no-one's fault, and scares like this are a feature of being a parent, albeit not in the first two weeks usually. When I got back home later in the evening I discovered my own baby, #2S, now 21 and over 6ft of normally healthy young man, was suffering from some unnamed malady which involved feeling dizzy and sick. At least all the excitement took my mind off my car failing its MOT this morning on several astoundingly expensive points, which will take a couple of days to fix.
