The Caburn
The spaniel and I made our way up to the Iron Age hillfort at the top of Mount Caburn on a cloudy grey morning. The appellation 'Mount' is something of an exaggeration, it is only 146 metres above sea level. Nevertheless it it a prominent landmark, being the highest point on an outlier of the main South Downs ridge. It is claimed to be the most excavated archaeological site in Britain.
