Stabilisers in Collars
Travelled this morning From Appin to Buntait, above Drumnadrochit, 2.5 hours driving to see his lot in action and give a talk.
First these are Stabiliser cattle, first I have come across them, bred in the 70's to be the perfect suckler cow. They seem to be doing well just now.
More important to me are the collars they are wearing. These are no fence collars, a method of controlling where the cattle can access without needing any fences. Great for hill ground. Each collar is connected to the satellite and beams info to an app on the phone. For me controlling cattle this way is a game changer for biodiversity which is what I was talking about. The bell like thing at the bottom is the photocell which is keeping it all charged.
The day went well and finished at 2pm and I then faced a 4.5hour journey home down Loch Ness side which was heaving with cyclists and Campervans. I am glad to be home tonight.
