The Last Count...
This is it! The last day of my "election2022" tag. We sorted and counted and documented the votes that had arrived from embassies, the postal votes, the Härnösand votes that came in on the day but were handed in somewhere else in Sweden, and the votes that the first count reckoned uncertain in some ways.
I don't think the votes we counted today made a difference to the final result in the town or the county. However, at national level our final count, together with all the other towns in Sweden, gave the parties of the right a majority of three, rather than one.
One of the interesting (sometimes good, sometimes bad) things about proportional representation and the resulting coalition governments is that they have to negotiate and compromise to get all the parties to agree on a particular change in the law. It will be "interesting" to see how the four parties most likely to form a coalition will manage that, given that some of their election manifesto promises are mutually exclusive.
In the photograph we are trying to work out why we have 162 votes and 161 envelopes. Counting once again the votes/envelopes balanced!
