Locking up
It's our turn to lock up the church this week. A large part of the village gets involved, unlocking the church in the morning and locking it at night, before dark. An added complication is that there is a candle on the sanctuary, before the altar, burning during the day as a memorial to the Queen, along with a pair of spotlights trained on the altar. Our job in the evening is to blow out the candle and switch off the lights, but halfway through supper, a bit after dark, I realised that we had forgotten the lights. We had another uphill trek to rectify the mistake – they would be expensive lights to leave burning unnecessarily.
But it's good exercise, up the hill twice in an evening . . .
