Musing on the Amazing Maize Maze
Whilst I am genuinely delighted that m’boy has found a football team, the Saturday morning training session does rather cut into a weekend lie-in.
It’s worth it though as it is clear to see that he is thoroughly enjoying himself. The short drive is no hardship, particularly when others are coming from much farther afield as there are no teams in their home village.
The session went by in a flash before we returned home to collect The Youngest from the grandparents - The Eldest having departed for a look around Lancaster Uni with her mum - and to get some lunch down them before heading out to the Lakeland Maize Maze.
This wasn’t just any ol’ visit to the Maize Maze (it’s fun to say) though, as today we were going to meet LadyV there to meet and introduce our respective broods to each other. The Maize Maze seemed a good bet with our thinking being that the children could work together to get us out of there. I think we were both a little trepidatious, but we met at 1.30pm and then didn’t part until just after 8pm, so I think it’s safe to say that it went pretty well!
We got lost in a wooden maze, petted massive cute rabbits, rode on go-karts (indoors and out - indoors were better apparently), had a tractor ride, ate ice cream and wandered through a sunflower field where we could clip our own flowers to take home. It was great fun and the time just vanished. So much so that the very thing we had gone there for (the maize maze) was closed by the time we made our way to it!
Because the children had been so good, we treated them to a McDonalds. The Eldest had rejoined at this point to join in proceedings and between her and the girls, a truly heroic amount of McNuggets were demolished. I am truly ashamed to say that I had my third/possibly fourth burger of the week - the middle-aged spread has really upped its game this week. They all continued to play well together and when it was time for Clan V to depart, it was not without a little sadness, but we both agreed that a sleepover on the first meeting might be pushing our luck!
Lovely day.
