Carlisle Castle
After a planned visit to the Cumberland Infirmary (knee brace) we were passing the castle and waiting in traffic so it became tonights' blip, a bit of it anyway (a bit more interesting than boring knee brace) The most besieged castle in Britain, it began life as a wooden structure, built on the site of a Roman Fort. Later on it was rebuilt in stone and housed Mary Queen of Scots (who appeared to have been forcibly housed in a number of places - bless her) It appeared to have been to and fro from Scottish to English rule and back again many many times during its life and so it stands today a dominant part of Carlisle along with the city walls - I have always thought these very impressive.
