An emotional day
I would not call myself a fervent royalist but do think there is a valid argument for a constitutional monarch, especially one like the late Queen Elizabeth whose dedication to the values of public service was a beacon in troubled and divisive times. As so many have said, her death and the public mourning of her passing, have inevitably triggered memories of loss and grieving in one's own life and at times I have found it difficult to separate the two. Having been moved by the majestic pageantry and music of the ceremonies playing out on television, I jumped into my car when the hearse left the Wellington Arch and drove out to the A30 nearby at the Crooked Billet roundabout where I was able to pay my respects to the Queen on her final journey home to Windsor.
