Funeral Wreath
I spent the day watching the funeral, as did so many others, including Blippers, many of whom chose the same shots as myself, so for variety I have chosen the following...
My main photo is of the beautiful wreath that adorned the coffin, not in white as those previously but mainly pink. This is from King Charles III to his mother, made with flowers from the gardens of his residences, including Highgrove, his home. The card reads simply "In loving and devoted memory".
So many of those in the procession are to be congratulated - the pallbearers and the Naval Cadets who pulled the gun-carriage among the most obvious. The entire day was such a dignified and meticulously executed event, and tears were shed, or suppressed, by participants and onlookers alike.
My collage includes the Symbols of Monarchy (Sceptre, Orb and Crown), secured to the coffin such that tilting did not allow any movement; the pall bearers, with a glimpse of Prince William, King Charles, Princess Anne and Peter Phillips; the gun carriage passing Buckingham Palace; the state hearse on the Long Walk, approaching Windsor Castle and, within St George's Chapel, the Sceptre, Orb and Crown, having been removed from the coffin by the Crown Jeweller being passed over to be laid on the altar.
A private family service followed later, when the Queen was finally laid to rest in the vault, where Prince Philip, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, among many other monarchs, are laid.
May she rest in peace.
