This is a bookmark that I finished off yesterday while watching the Queens funeral. It was made with a cross stitch kit that I have had for years, no idea whether I bought it or where! So maybe when I use it I will think back to this event.

I started the cross stitch while watching Wimbledon when we were staying in Alderney, where we actually saw puffins on a boat trip and did some more work on it while watching the Commonwealth Games. I haven’t done cross stitch on such a small scale as this before and didn’t realise how long it takes to do it properly. It makes me realise what a lot of work went into making all the cross stitch samplers and other items in days gone by. Also how difficult sewing must have been in the days before proper electric lighting.

Today I went to the IKEA store at Hammersmith as it’s nearer than the others but…….a very disappointing experience, I will not be going there again. A much smaller selection of items and not organised very well. Also the cafe was disappointing too. None of the things I wanted to look at were on display.
