leaves are happening
the small big lime tree this evening. I saw so many things I wanted to blip today but I couldn't be bothered to get my camera. I'm still in garden mania - although the chance of anything surviving the night is minimal judging by the sound of the thunder right now.....hopefully it will pass us by with some light rain and not hailstones the size of cats, howling wind and a ground frost to top it all off ;-)
At the moment I'm re-reading The Little Drummer Girl. I first read it when I was about 13 and it was probably the first book I read that opened my eyes to the political and human complexity of conflict and identity. I loved everyone in the book but loving one meant I had to hate another....On top of that, Charlie's drive through (then) Yugoslavia was my first glimpse of the Balkans and I wanted to go there. While I was in Sarajevo a few weeks ago it suddenly struck me that I have now actually been to about every place mentioned in the book. And I've also studied conflict, negotiation, politics, identity....so, I thought I'd read it again and see what I think of it now. I like Le Carre's books, he tackles big subjects and manages to present them in an understandable but not overly simplified way. And I like his characters too.
