The End of an Era
My husband M has played football for well over 60 years and has always loved playing, it's been a huge part of his life and it has meant he's stayed fit (along with regular games of squash which he also used to enjoy). However, since being diagnosed with MS, sport of any kind has become increasingly difficult and even though M has switched to playing walking football over the last few months, even this now causes him much frustration as he is unable to play to the standard that he was used to.
So today, after a lot of thought he has decided to hang up his football boots for good. This is very sad for him (and therefore for me too) as playing meant so much to him for so long.
I can see that our exercise bike will see some more action now instead...perhaps it'll encourage me to use it more too!
Fortunately, M enjoys his role as an archivist and museum guide for the Langham Dome, a local military museum and already volunteers one day a week. Instead of the football M will increase his volunteering hours there instead. It's a fab little museum, if you find yourself in North Norfolk it really is worth a visit.
