Autumn Crocus

Today's the day .......................... for more ladies

After yesterday's 'pink ladies' - here's some 'naked'  ones.

Or, at least that's what these colchicum or autumn crocus that have just appeared are known as.  If I'm perfectly honest, there's no way I would ever have gone out and bought these to plant in the garden.  They always look very sinister, eerily pushing their way through the soil at this time of the year - and very deserving of their common name of Naked Ladies.

Something else that I found today was a little clump of cowslips (see extra).  It was a rather unexpected find because they normally appear in the spring - but, in their case, I was delighted to see them .....................!
