Church of Kessel

Kessel has an age-old religious tradition. There must have been a Romanesque church in 1236. In 1460 a Gothic church was built, which burned down during the wars at the end of the 16th century and was rebuilt. When this church building was demolished in 1869, the demolition workers came across a Roman sacrificial stone. A sign that this has been a sacred place for a long time.

The famous master builder Cuypers designed a new church for Kessel in neo-Gothic style, which was completed in 1872. This church was heavily damaged in World War II. The tower and church were rebuilt afterward. The church is under monument protection.
