Just In Time For The Sun To Come Out

It started as a very grey day, with lots of clouds in the sky as we headed out to Angelokastro, a ruined Byzantine castle near Paleokastrites.

It was another mountainous drive and as we drove through the mountain village of Lakones with it’s very narrow roads, we were relieved to see what turned out to be the longest set of traffic lights I have ever come across. The sign said they changed every 7 minutes and 30 seconds as they took you through the village and beyond about 3km. We ended up stopping in the middle at a cafe with the most amazing views back to the village and out over Paleokastrites bay.

Angelokastro was interesting but unusual in that people were allowed to wander/clamber wherever and with the wind that had now picked up, it wasn’t for the feint hearted and I am not sure it would have passed many health and safety risk assessments.

On our way home, we stopped in the village of Makrades and wandering off the beaten track found a cute little taverna for lunch just in time for the sun to come out and Sushi to get his promised afternoon by the pool.
