Autumn
The fig tree is looking good. But few, if any, of this second crop will ripen in the UK climate. All but the smallest will need to be picked off, so that the tree's energy goes into maturing these small ones next season.
Fortunately we had a small but delicious crop during the hot summer.
Talking of temperatures, I met up with two old friends for coffee & a chat this morning. We all compared notes on energy bills. We are all lucky enough to be able to absorb the eye-watering increases at the moment. But each of us is also changing our behaviour, towards saving energy where we can: keeping the house colder, wearing extra layers. Meanwhile Liz Truss fiddles with dangerous and unpopular fracking plans while the EU pushes for more renewables...
