Over the sea to . . . . . Gigha
Today my friend Tim and I decided to take a trip down the coast to Tayinloan and over to God's Island, the Isle of Gigha, and Achamore Garden. The garden has had a chequered history lately as after the island was bought by the community a few years ago there was no money for the garden. It's only within the last couple of years that a permanent Head Gardener has been taken on, and though she may not have a huge horticultural knowledge yet, she's positively bursting with enthusiasm, which I think is more important.
The climate is very mild on Gigha and my Blip today shows a Cordyline indivisa and a Wollemi pine. There were Lapageria rosea in flower, climbing up trees, Echium pininana everywhere and a range of exotics to delight anyone with a love of special plants. One of Britain's great plant collections.
