Camera club..

Deep in discussion about focal lengths, perspective and wide angle lenses. There are another 4 people out of shot.

Saw a weather forecast yesterday predicting two raindrops (moderate) for 6-midday today and three raindrops (heavy) for the afternoon and evening. Yesterday, I had written today off for outdoor jobs. When I woke to high cloud and dry roads, plans immediately changed.

We eventually got around to planting potatoes. Not too late. Four rows of British Queen, two of Charlotte, one of Anya, and five of Pink Fir Apple. We were given some British Queen last year, they are the best potatoes for roasting, better even than King Edwards. Charlotte and Anya are good "salad" potatoes, firm and "wet" as they are called up here. I would say waxy. Pink Fir Apples grow in peculiar shapes, but are the best tasting spud available, don't bother peeling, just scrub the dirt off with a nail brush. And the Queens, when roasted, a good thick floury crust and slightly waxy inside.

Pulled out a trench with the end of a rake, planted, and then rowed up from each side with the rake to form ridges. It started raining as I was 1/2 way through ridging. I nearly managed to finish, and the rest of the day was aweful.

Forecast is for it clear by 9 tomorrow, but I think it'll be too wet to do anything before the next band of rain on Saturday..
