Tender - is the day?
The 23rd today and our lovely Josie is 1 year old. What a year and how quickly it has passed. We can't meet up due to the dreaded virus but we'll make up for that next weekend. The extra came courtesy of her mum.
I picked up Isobel this afternoon with her new Dance bag, a birthday gift of yesterday. Eilidh came with me as we dropped I at dancing. We went off to spend the time with some refreshment, no cake as we'd eaten a cake mountain yesterday!
We had a seat by the harbour at Newhaven and watched the world go by. For non-Edinburgh readers, this is one of two former fishing harbours less than two miles from the centre of Edinburgh. We are fortunate to have the Port of Leith nearby, the commercial harbour, so these have managed to maintain their picturesque appearance. There are still a few small fishing boats based here while Granton Harbour to the west has a thriving marina. Edinburgh has such a picturesque setting, with its mountain in the town centre and a setting bounded by hills to the south and the Forth Estuary to the north, it is so easy to forget you are in a capital city.
Today's excitement though wasn't the boats in the harbour, but the two tenders bringing tourists from the Viking Mars cruise ship paused here on its way to Norway. Eilidh watched with fascination as the small boats bounced their way into the harbour and the tourists boarded the buses to take them to the town centre. You can just see the ship peeking out from behind the buildings behind the lighthouse.
