Day 33 - Groningen and then the boat home

It rained in the night and the seal on the back window leaked a bit. Mr C thinks he can fix it when we get home.

He found a car parking place just outside the pay meter area in Groningen in quite a rundown area by a canal. It was around 25 minutes to walk into the older part of town. The town was a strange mix of very modern buildings in juxtaposition to d ones. Walking was interesting as not many others were on foot - there were hundreds of bikes shooting about confidently and speedily.

We had a wander in the old town then got back to the van to take the route over Afsluitdijk which was about 10 miles long. We weren’t able to see over to the sea side of the dam as both parking areas were closed off due to work being done on the dam. A finger in the dyke wouldn’t help much here. On the south side of the dam, Ijsselmeer, there were many wind farms and in one area a dozen kite surfers were enjoying themselves.

We arrived at the port of Ijmuiden in plenty of time. The young woman had to flick through our passports several times to find the stamp she was looking for. It’s on the same page as the Italy ones. We were asked if we knew about the 90 day rule. Just as well we are going home with the £ at rock bottom due to excessive government borrowing to enable them to reduce the taxes of the rich.

My blip is wind power - old and new in the Netherlands.
