Steaming through Arnside
This is number 44932 coming through Arnside station at a good rate of knots. Trying to make up ten minutes lost somewhere further back.
This is a London Midland and Scottish Stanier class loco built in 1945. It is one of 18 surviving out of a total of 842 which were built.
It is hauling an excursion train which left London Euston at 07.08 this morning. It was pulled by an electric loco all all the way to Carlisle. That is where the steam engine took over for the journey all down the Cumbrian coast to Barrow in Furness and the on the Furness line coming through Arnside at 17.20. Knottman was standing on the footbridge.
Ten minutes later it would arrive at Carnforth where electric would take over for it journey back to London Euston.
A long day out for its enthusiastic passengers.
