Ice!

Well the forecast of rain didn’t materialize thank goodness but we hung around the Airbnb waiting for our laundry to finish. Finally on the road - first stop was Fjaoragliufur Canyon - https://guidetoiceland.is/connect-with-locals/regina/the-picturesque-fjadrargljufur-canyon-in-south-iceland if you’d like to read about it. I think that Energia might be posting a photo from there since I was too chicken to walk out onto the very high overlook!

Next we went to the Skaftafell Nature Reserve where Energia hiked up to the waterfall and I just had to go look at the glacier, a much flatter walk...better for the tweaks knee. See extra two. I didn’t have any good shots of the glacier, sadly. The sweet little campanulas were tucked behind a boulder and of course a nod to Kate’s Garden back home. See extra one.

With quite a long ride left to our next Airbnb near Höfn...eventually headed to the eastern fjords of Iceland. As fortune would have it, our route passed by the Glacier Lagoon - more here: https://guidetoiceland.is/nature-info/jokulsarlon-glacier-lagoon-the-crown-jewel-of-iceland-s-nature. My photos don’t begin to capture the truly breathtaking beauty of this place. But the main may give you a sense of it.

And Diamond Beach is just across the highway (extra 4) where small chunks of iceberg wash up on the shore of this black sand beach. More info here: https://guidetoiceland.is/travel-iceland/drive/diamond-beach

We reached our Airbnb in Birkifell, near Höfn, around 7 pm and were met by our host. He informed us that the area was forecast to have hurricane strength winds for two days and it was likely that the road to the main road would be closed tomorrow, therefore not allowing us to continue our journey East. But the guests scheduled for tomorrow night have already canceled and we can stay another night. And, because we’ll probably run out of food, we’re invited to the host’s for dinner :)
