Slimbridge

This morning we headed across the river Severn to the  Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust reserve  at Slimbridge. We met Angie, a friend from Bristol, and had a great day catching up with her and doing some bird watching. Although it is not the busiest time of year for birds, with  the migratory  swans, geese and waders still to arrive, it was enjoyable  to be able to watch the  wildfowl on  the mudflats and shallow pools of the  Severn estuary, feeling the  warm  sun on our backs. The highlight was seeing a dozen Cranes nonchalantly feeding on the  salt meadows.
The birds were too far away for me to photograph so my blip  is of cattle on the estuary  salt meadows. We had  watched  the herd  being released  from another enclosure. They had become  very excited when  they heard and saw the farmer approach on his quad bike, obviously  knowing he was going to  let them out to graze fresh ground.

After a very enjoyable visit we headed  for home, arriving here soon after 7pm..
