Different angle!
Saturday
This evening was the opening concert of the Cincinnati Symphony concert series, and they were starting with a “bang” - Mahler Symphony No 2 “Resurrection” - such a thrilling and meaningful work, and one of my favourites. We hadn’t got around to buying our selection of 7 concerts (for the price of 6) until yesterday, so we had to move somewhat towards the side for todays concert, since it was short notice, and a popular concert. The Symphony lasts about 85 minutes and was the only work on the program. The work is programmed for a huge orchestra, and the choir was the combined choruses of the May festival Chorus, the May Festival Youth Chorus and the Xavier University Choir. It was an amazing performance - such range of sound and great feeling - and received a standing ovation.
