The Amazing Daintree River

After a very rainy day in the Daintree Rainforest the sky finally cleared up for us on our way back across the river to Cairns.

The river and its surrounding rainforests are home to some of the most primitive forms of animal and plant life in the world - way back from when our continents were one huge land mass. Many plant species and even animal species that were previously declared extinct have been rediscovered in this area. Our tour guide explained it is in fact the oldest tropical rainforest in the world at one hundred and thirty-five million years, and apparently David Attenborough's favourite!
