Life in a Northern Town

Flipping fabulous Friday.

Today is a good day. Today I found out that our greyhound is coming home to live with us on Thursday - woo hoo!! I took her for a walk today, and gave her the good news. I am not sure she fully understood what I said but she looked happy when I gave her some doggie treats! We are all very excited and I really need to go shopping. Still no name though - must get onto that this weekend.

So to celebrate I've been to Merrie England (well I go there every Friday anyway with my friend Maxine) for lunch.

I realise that only a privileged few of you will know what a Merrie England is. There are a number of these cafes in the Huddersfield area (there's even a drive though near to where I live). You can't buy skinny-iced-frappa-cappa-mocha-latta-cino, you get tea or coffee - with no pattern on the top in chocolate sprinkles. You get proper sandwiches with no grapes or rocket in them, apple pie served with cream (not clotted but you can't have everything), eccles cakes or even a piece of Battenburg wrapped in cling-film. Nobody writes your name (spelled incorrectly) on your cup, and there is absolutely never anybody typing on their laptop (I suspect the average customer is, shall we say, not exactly from the generation that would even know how to switch a laptop on). Maxine and I like to sit in the same seat every week and I always order the same thing. It's a little corner of old-fashioned-ness.

I am guessing that none of the above is helping whatsoever with my quest to not be a "mature woman"..................

It's Friday, it's a Bank Holiday, it's kind of sunny here, so I think a song is in order. I can't think of anything that fits with the Blip, so I'll just pick a fabulous tune - I hope you get to do anything you wanna do this weekend.
