Thirsty
Another walk along the Great Ouse River at Olney - a very early morning one this time. Up at sunrise to try and see the barn owl. We missed it but did briefly see one of the kingfishers that have nested by the mill race and also a red-breasted merganser (I think, but wasn't sure we had them here at this time of year) with four chicks -- the first baby birds I have seen this year!
We were up so early we needed a second breakfast (!) of famous Olney pancakes before we left. At least that's my excuse. We've never been here for the Olney Pancake race -- where women of the town race to the church in traditional apron and cap while holding a frying pan with a pancake. The race dates back to the 15th Century.
