Moscow Metro
On previous trips to Russia, I have never used the underground, I suppose a general preference to walk or taxi built upon years of experience of London's transport system!
I couldn't be more wrong, a trip to a Georgian restraurant on a wonder of art & engineering combined. Each station is different, with a stark contrast between wipe clean surfaces on escalators and other 'functional' elements and the marble floors, sculpture & chandeliers (with low energy lighting)!
Apparently 9M people use it each day, in the rush hour (on our way to dinner) each train is 45 seconds apart. Despite not being able to read the signage, it's realatively clear where to go and importantly it felt safe (it's used after all).
