History

Another great day. Felt like I only dozed from about 3am but decided to just get on with things and not dwell on tiredness, in the hope that keeping active all day will get me a good sleep tonight.
We set off much earlier this morning into the city and started off with brunch at a very hipster joint. Very pretty (and tasty) breakfast but I can’t honestly say I have a lot of time for the Melbourne coffee snobbery…..menu for the coffee is as long as for the food and talks nonsense about peach or caramel flavours when it tastes (to me) of standard coffee. Best not say that too loud round here, what with there being the annual international coffee convention going on at the moment!
We walked around the heart of the city, noticing the older houses, red brick ex warehouses and little churches etc nestled between enormous skyscrapers. We walked around the lanes with steet art and via a little arcade like you’d find in Leeds or London, then through parks and round to the museum where we explored the First Nations story (really interesting and we learned a lot….loved the canoes and sails) and the section on the Queen had been altered already to record her death. Uncomfortably imperial parts of the nation’s story though….
Stopped at an art gallery and chatted to the lady on duty there, then walked to Fitzroy area of the city to see the little verandah houses and found some lovely shops. K bought a Gorman dress and I was delighted to get a leather jacket after looking for one for so long.
We were flagging (after about 8 miles of walking!) so headed home and picked up some nibbles in the supermarket.
Collapsed on the sofa with drinks and snacks and I managed finally to download all the work papers for next week so must get on and read those. We were dropping by 10pm so headed to bed.
Apologies for lack of comments on journals….it’s a bit hectic!
