Salmon poacher

After a bit if tidying up before visitors arrived to stay for a few days, my wife and I headed to Ocean Terminal first to meet up with a friend for coffee the to get our flu jab and Covid booster. The latter process was all very easy and efficient.

Back home and we got ready for a gin and salmon evening with a neighbour who has been involved in the drinks industry for several decades. He brought along some Downpour gins to sample. They come from North Uist. I’d had samples before but tonight the range was wider and included a negroni ( very nice!)

We’d laid out a variety of smoked salmon, oatcakes, smoked trout and pate. We were in the kitchen waiting for the neighbour to arrive and became aware that the dog was not around. A slight tinkling was heard. On inspecting the room a very sheepish dog crept out, having got up on a chair, accessed the table and consumed some fennel gravadlax by Rick Stein. The tinkling had been his dog tag hitting against the plate!

For the next few hours he drank copious amounts of water resulting in several trips to the garden!
