Well, the modelling clay didn't work so I decided to use Polyfilla.  I have to say that this has turned out much better.  I have touched up the paint on the hill and cleaned some of the ballast that caught some overspill of the Polyfilla.  Then a little touch of concrete paint on the hardstanding.
