The Calm Before

A book. The Long Way Home by Stuart MacDonald. Another old sixty something with a boat. Though he went considerably further than I did, it seems we had the same sorts of issues.*
Aside from reading we did the usual shop at Eroski and then the rain came down. But later, guess what, the sun came back out. Yes indeed. But overnight, jees. Some thunder, that.

Hugely bad news about the Filmhouse and EIFF. To continue with nautical parlances, they’d obviously been sailing a bit too close to the wind for some time. Did no one take action?

* When I got to the beautiful island of St Lucia the Volvo guy looked over the engine and then took me on a guided tour of its essential organs, such as the heat exchanger and the starter motor, most of which it appeared were about to fail, or like two of the mountings, had already done so. Certainly, he said he would be able to source the bits for the pump in a week or so but, in his view, I would be throwing money away. He asked if I had considered a new engine?
(Volvo - Heat exchanger and starter - exactly where it started with me too - and later - fried batteries! Snap!)
