Away day

One of the motivations for having a bolt hole in the Highlands was the opportunity for awaydays. Whilst chilling out last night, I suggested that perhaps we should have a day out, as we have worked pretty hard getting the place up to scratch since we bought it in August. Mr A then obviously said that we could go absolutely anywhere, so long as it involved Lochinver pies. Of course, it did.

We got away fairly smartly this morning, and the drive over to the west coast was full of amazing morning and autumn colour and then, when I looked in the rear view mirror at one point, this gorgeous sight. We went up to Clachtoll and walked to the broch, which we did previously in 2017 (when staying in Lochinver) and 2011 (when staying at the campsite at Clachtoll). The campsite was heaving with campervans…. That road is on the NC500, which strikes me as a bit ridiculous.

Before going for our pies, we stopped at the Highland Stoneware shop and picked up a couple of mugs and a couple of other pieces in the Celadon Rock Pool range.

After getting pie-eyed, we drove back to the main road the long way round, via Inverkirkaig and the road past the way in to Achtilbuie. On the way back to Invershin, I stopped a couple of times, once to look at whether we would like to visit Rosehall forest walks (I think we would) and once to photograph Oykel Bridge. I was going to blip it, but it’s lost out to this view.

More pies have been brought home, but we settled for bacon rolls for dinner.
