They're off
I was supposed to be running a half marathon near Aviemore today but, although the knee is much better, I decided it wouldn't be wise so, when daughter contacted us a few days ago to ask if we could be support crew for an event we happily agreed.
It was day 1 of the Forth and Clyde Canal canoe marathon, Speirs Wharf to Falkirk. which she was doing with her usual K2 partner and they realised they needed a support crew (they'd entered fairly late and hadn't had much time to organise things).
We met them near the Flakirk Wheel, transferred their very long boat to our car and drove to Glasgow and saw them off. We then met at 3 places along the route with various supplies and then at the end. Mr Rat and I took advantage of the waiting time to have short runs on the tow paths and managed over 9 miles in 3 runs. That was really good for getting the legs going again and I was really pleased my knee gave no trouble, even on the last section.
They finished in just under 4 hours for the 23 miles, about 25 mins quicker than last time they did it when the course was a mile shorter.
The extras show them arriving at about half-way and a portage round a lock (there were a couple more we didn't see)>
Tomorrow they return to Falkirk with a different support crew and do at least a far again on the canal to Edinburgh.
Once we'd done we went back to daughter's and had an excellent takeaway before driving home.
A good day for all.
