Ode to David

A few times during this trip Dave has kindly read a section of The Road to Little Dribbling... this was just before packing up the Black Knight after our little North Norfolk nocturnal adventure... with Dave reading us the sections on Stonehenge and North Norfolk. Love Bryson's ability to educate whilst making you smile! Went past Little Snoring today, love quirky English place-names.
Got to show Dave & Leyna one of my favourite little English towns, Holt - and its lovely eatery, Byford's, which I first came across when Gresham's lodged me there whilst at interview back in 2009 - how different would my life (and my daughters') have been, had I got the job, I wonder?!
At the risk of "blowing smoke", to coin a phrase, think on this: after getting to bed at 5am after our eventful and highly stressful night, Dave:
- woke bright and early about 8am
- cooked us a full English in the van
- packed up the van
- drove the van to Lincoln via Holt (over 3 hours)
- completed his company's payroll and other essential bits of work
- all with a cheerful disposition, and whilst playing a full part in various discussions (some quite "heavy"), watching a couple of TV shows, drinking wine, etc...
And yet it's me falling asleep on the sofa whilst he's still apparently wide-awake and fully engaged with proceedings (and he's not far off being a "pensioner", remember). Remarkable.
