Sunderland Flying Boat

This model kit arrived the other day. I bought it because I used to have the Airfix 1:72 version, and I thought it would be a challenge to construct. During WW2, Squadron 210 Sunderlands were stationed at RAF Alness not far from here, on the Cromarty Firth. They were used for U-Boat hunting as well as air sea rescue work and crew training. BOAC, the precurser to British Airways later flew them on civillian routes in parts of the globe where only rudimentary air strips were avialable. You land in the sea: simple. It’s a big baby. I’ve placed a Spitfire of the same scale next to it.
