Mansions, parks and cafes
Another blue-sky day today, but now, at 6.30pm, there's a decided nip in the air in SW London. It went down to 3 degrees last night.
Sis and I were hoping to take a Thames boat trip today, Hampton Court to Richmond and return maybe, but the boats weren't running on Tuesday and Wednesday. We tried looking up trips from Henley, but they stopped at the end of September. So we tried Dapdune Wharf, at Godalming, but that was closed on Monday and Tuesday, so we gave up! Instead we drove over to Morden Hall Park, an NT property on the banks of the River Wandle. The park was given to the NT in 1942 on condition that entry was free to everyone.
We went to the cafe for coffee and then had a good look around the garden centre and the exhibition, and had a good blether with a couple of guys who were responsible for the maintenance of the Snuff Mill. Couldn't stop them, as it happens - some interesting history!
We then went on to Nonsuch Mansion, which is my Blip today. Now a wedding venue, the house is surrounded by a pleasant park and gardens and we began our tour with a visit to the cafe for tea and biscuits - somehow we missed out on lunch today! An interesting second-hand bookshop too!
We ended our day with a visit to my sister's daughter and family - the ones we met the other day at the garden centre. Great fun playing with the kids.
My last day tomorrow - as my siblings are both tied up, I hope to spend the day in London again.
