Pointless, This Is A Dunnock
I shot this dunnock whilst standing near the farmyard. This bird is sometimes called a hedge sparrow but that's no excuse for the people setting the questions on the TV quiz programme Pointless. Last week there was a very easy bird identification round with some of the letters of the bird names under the pictures. The dunnock letters had a pic of a house sparrow above them. Dunnocks have much more in common with robins than they do house sparrows. The dunnock has a sharp pointed bill, ideal for catching invertebrates and eating small seeds. House sparrows have short chunky beaks suited to a more varied diet.
Lovely warm sunny day, the ivy was buzzing. I've added an ivy bee to extras.
