Tongland Power Station

Today's the day ........................ to refurbish

We heard some good news today regarding our local hydro power station, just up the road from us.  I've blipped it many times because it is such an iconic 1930s building - part of the Galloway Scheme to produce hydro electricity and described as being 'a fusion of necessary engineering requirements and detailed Modernist classical design'.

Apparently, work has started on a £2m refurbishment and upgrade by Operators Drax .  As part of this, Tongland Power Station's exterior walls will receive a new concrete coating and a layer of mineral-based paint to 'protect the integrity of the building for decades to come'.

Let's hope they will also re-instate the guided tours of the building which were once available to visitors ...................
