Young Seal.
Many thanks to all who told me what yesterday's bird was, and for the nice comments.
Had to wait this morning until the thick fog lifted before leaving here in the boat to go up the Pelorus Sound to Danger Point & then over to the bay by the Waimaru Gannett colony. We were going out to check the 2 spat lines we have out there for growing the spat for the Greenshell mussels. They are grown out there until they are about 25-30 mm long, then transferred (re-seeded) onto crop rope and put out on the marine farm up in the Kenepuru Sound. Here they stay until they are at least 90mm long, and ready to harvest. This takes any where between 14 - 24 months.
This young seal, and another very big fat one were sitting on the rocks on the end of Danger Point. I liked this shot the best.
We headed from here across to Waimaru to check that line, and for me to take photos of the Gannett's, but for the first time ever, there wasn't one single Gannett around. I will have to find out what has happened or where they go! Most disappointing not to see any. The Other Half had seen some before we left, over by our mussel farm in the Kenepuru, but I was hoping for lots of them.
