OLD TOWN HALL, GATESHEAD

Went to the cinema in Gateshead this afternoon.  Ages since Ive been - nothing seemed to appeal until now.  I saw " Mrs Harris Goes To Paris".  I enjoyed it.  The film was showing in one of the small screen rooms at the Vue Cinema.  There weren't many in the audience.

After the cinema I went to the nearby big Tesco.  Grapes were on my shopping list but I was out of luck.  Not one pack of grapes to be found in Tesco.  In fact there were a lot of empty spaces in the fruit aisles.  So after getting some other shopping in Tesco I popped into Iceland for grapes.

The Wide Wednesday challenge is " old  or aged " .  So I decided to blip the Old Town Hall in Gateshead.  ( Found it tricky to photograph as its on a hill so it might look a bit wonky ) The foundation stone for the  building was laid in 1868 -- unfortunately a stand collapsed during the ceremony killing a member of the public. The building was  completed in 1870. The  ornately carved statue on the top depicts justice. The building also served as a magistrates' court and a police station.  It remained the headquarters of the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead until the council moved to the newly built Gateshead Civic Centre in  1987. Since then it has had various uses and at one time it was used as rehearsal rooms by the nearby music venue The Sage.  At the moment the building is boarded up and empty.  Such a shame.  Thanks to BobsBlips for hosting the challenge.
