Over the hill

As they say when you drive the I 80 from Reno towards Sacramento. The interstate climbs up to the Donner Pass where a famous trek of first settlers (Donner Party) found an infamous end as the winter storms had come in too early.

Anyway, we just drove on this very narrow freeway often just flanked by rocks as you see on this picture.
Our tour today was a little different from what I had planned. First , before entering the freeway, we visited a Safeway store in search for a medicine. The pharmacist then offered us a Covid booster shot- which I hadn’t been able to get in our little town for weeks. So 20 minutes later we left the store freshly vaccinated.
Then we learned that the friends we wanted to visit had come down with Covid and asked us not to come. So we drove to Napa valley , added another night to our existing booking and found that hotel very accommodating .
We accidentally found a delightful restaurant for lunch right next to the road
and spent some hours on their shady terrace with Prosecco and good starters. The rest of the day was spent on the terrace of the hotel reading and relaxing at the pool. That drive had been stressful so we both enjoyed the peace and quiet.
