Malfunction?

I know this is yet another flower (and dahlia) blip but I am fascinated by this Pom Pom dahlia. Most of the flower heads it has produced have been single colour.

But this bloom has produced one petal of a different colour. It is the only petal of this colour on the flower head. And the only flower head so far to have produced a petal of this colour. Curious.
