Angostura water control structure

This is the Angostura water control structure on the Rio Grande. It serves to divert water into the acequias and other irrigation structures on the Middle Rio Grande. It was built in 1950. There are 4 gates, 2 of which are in use. Angostura is the narrowest part of the Middle Rio Grande and was a ford in prehistoric and colonial times. There has been a fort or other settlement nearby for thousands of years. The current village there is Algodones.

Today, I give thanks for the day I was given, the newly repaired Volvo, a long nap with the baby, and a longer walk in an interesting place with the dog.
