Up In The Air Again

The mallards deserted the lake while they were moulting but they've returned. Even though they are not quite into breeding condition they're getting ready for it. The drakes are throwing their heads back and grunt-whistling. They're chasing each other and posturing for the benefit of the females. Two pairs took off together this morning. Nice to see them in the air again. Bit of a rubbish image but it's all I have today. Three bird flights, which inspired the plaster wall duck ornaments, don't take place until the spring.
