St. Michael's, Mitcham
Adelaide is known as - or more precisely used to be known as - the City of Churches. St. Michael's at Mitcham is one of the oldest - in the suburbs at any rate.
On reflection this isn't the most flattering angle, but it's on the way in from the car park, and therefore the easiest when in a hurry.
Built in 1852, it is constructed of local stone, with an imposing tower, and is set in large grounds amidst towering River Red Gums in a quiet leafy suburb. (As an aside, South Australian was proclaimed in 1836).
We love going there - quite apart from the beautiful surroundings and a window from the workshop of William Morris, the service is at 9 am and lasts for exactly an hour.
